Born
May 5, 1978. the renowned
Enrico
Caruso *Ps*E*
was one of the best stallions the breed has had.
At
his Korung at Neumünster after his approval,
he was ignored at the auction because of his
small size as a 2.5 year old.
He was bought for a bargain by Otto Langels of
Gestuet Haemelschenburg
who only
later realized how small he was.
Enrico was found
to have an extremely gentle character and was
very athletic. To everyone's surprise he grew to
almost 16.3 hands.
Enrico Caruso was Reserve
Champion of his 100 day test at Medingen
scoring 132 points. He was Champion stallion
at the International Riding Horse Champions in Warendorf,
and also I.S.R. - Oldenburg
NA five star stallion*****. He
started his career as a breeding stallion at Gestut Hamelschenburg and became
their foundation
stallion. He produced five licensed sons in
Germany and six licensed sons in the
United States. His son, Kovington *Ps*,
is the youngest ATA approved stallion in the ATA
to earn the Performance Silver Award. Many of his
progeny today are outstanding performance horses
in all disciplines.

His
most famous son,
Kostolany (out of Kapstadt by Falke) has
followed in his sire's footsteps by also siring
many successful sporthorses. Nine
approved sons and most of
them Trakehners.
His most famous son is the Approval Champion
Gribaldi. He has had a
great impact on the Dutch Warmblood Breed in the
Netherlands. Enrico's gray son
Trocadero
was graded premium and champion of his approval
and sold for 300,000 DM at the
Klosterhof-Medingen Auction. He produced jumpers
as well as dressage horses. The most famous of
his daughters was
Schwalbenlust (Elite Schwalbenburg by
Ibikus) who once reigned the Stud at Haemelschenburg. She passed
away but left her crown behind for her
beautiful daughter Schwalbenspiel by
Exclusiv, the dam of
the approved Shavalou.

Enrico
Caruso became a successful performance horse
competing at S Level prior to being imported to the
U.S. by Tylord Farm where he stood
at stud and successfully competed in Grand Prix
Dressage with rider, Susanne Hassler.
This earned him the "Silver Level Performance"
title with the American Trakehner Association.
He was also proclaimed as an Elite Stallion with the
ATA.
In 2005, Enrico Caruso's last son
Lord Luciano bred and owned by Tylord Farm
was approved in Germany.
Enrico Caruso's sire was the legendary
approved Trakehner stallion Mahagoni who
was Champion of his stallion performance test in
Germany. Mahagoni was ranked in the top
ten in the world for many years for producing
competitive CDI Grand Prix Dressage horses.
He was also sire of Olympic Bronze Medalist,
Peron. Mahagoni was later decorated with the
title "Sire of the Century"
Enrico Caruso died in a tragic barn fire on
June 14, 2005. His death brought tears
to many around the world that loved this noble
stallion...
