Enrico Caruso *Ps*E*

"You will find him in the pedigrees of many successful horses.  He left his mark behind, may be more so in Germany than in the U.S."

May you rest in peace...

Born May 5, 1978. the renowned Enrico Caruso *Ps*E* was one of the best stallions the breed has had.  At his Korung at Neumünster after his approval, he was ignored at the auction because of his small size as a 2.5 year old. He was bought for a bargain by Otto Langels of Gestuet Haemelschenburg who only later realized how small he was. Enrico was found to have an extremely gentle character and was very athletic. To everyone's surprise he grew to almost 16.3 hands.

Enrico Caruso was Reserve Champion of his 100 day test at Medingen scoring 132 points.  He was Champion stallion at the International Riding Horse Champions in Warendorf, and also I.S.R. - Oldenburg NA five star stallion*****. He started his career as a breeding stallion at Gestut Hamelschenburg and became their foundation stallion. He produced five licensed sons in Germany and  six licensed sons in the United States. His son, Kovington *Ps*, is the youngest ATA approved stallion in the ATA to earn the Performance Silver Award. Many of his progeny today are outstanding performance horses in all disciplines.

His most famous son, Kostolany (out of Kapstadt by Falke) has followed in his sire's footsteps by also siring many successful sporthorses.  Nine  approved sons and most of them Trakehners. His most famous son is the Approval Champion Gribaldi. He has had a great impact on the Dutch Warmblood Breed in the Netherlands. Enrico's gray son Trocadero was graded premium and champion of his approval and sold for 300,000 DM at the Klosterhof-Medingen Auction. He produced jumpers as well as dressage horses. The most famous of his daughters was Schwalbenlust (Elite Schwalbenburg by Ibikus) who once reigned the Stud at Haemelschenburg. She passed away but left her crown behind for her beautiful daughter  Schwalbenspiel by Exclusiv, the dam of the approved Shavalou.

Enrico Caruso became a successful performance horse competing at S Level prior to being imported to the U.S. by Tylord Farm where he stood at stud and successfully competed in Grand Prix Dressage with rider, Susanne Hassler.  This earned him the "Silver Level Performance" title with the American Trakehner Association.  He was also proclaimed as an Elite Stallion with the ATA.

In 2005, Enrico Caruso's last son Lord Luciano bred and owned by Tylord Farm was approved in Germany.

Enrico Caruso's sire was the legendary approved Trakehner stallion Mahagoni who was Champion of his stallion performance test in Germany.  Mahagoni was ranked in the top ten in the world for many years for producing competitive CDI Grand Prix Dressage horses.  He was also sire of Olympic Bronze Medalist, Peron. Mahagoni was later decorated with the title "Sire of the Century"

Enrico Caruso died in a tragic barn fire on June 14, 2005.  His death brought tears to many around the world that loved this noble stallion...
